Work with Mike

A small number of leaders. Real relationships. Ongoing.

I work with a limited number of founders and companies at a time — usually in an ongoing advisory and coaching relationship. Deep enough to matter, narrow enough to actually show up.

01 · How we start

We start with a hike.

Three hours on foot. No deck, no agenda, no laptop — just enough time and distance to actually get to know each other and the company you're trying to build.

I do this with every new CEO I take on. The conversation goes deeper outside than it ever does on Zoom, and most of the trust we'll need for the harder months gets built in the first mile.

Duration ~3 hours on trail

Pace Steady, talkable
Cost Built into the engagement

I live in Marin. If you're elsewhere, we'll find a trail that works — or do the first hike when you next pass through.

02 · Engagement

What working together looks like.

03 · Expectations

What I expect.

From you

Show up honestly.

  • Bring the real issue, not the polished version of it.
  • Be preparable when prep matters. Be present when it doesn't.
  • Own the follow-through. The session moves; the change happens between them.
  • Willingness to do tactical and personal work in the same hour.
From me

Show up sharp.

  • Read your business, your moment, and your patterns — closely.
  • Tell you the thing nobody else is telling you.
  • Hold the line when you'd rather drift.
  • Be there when it's actually hard, not just when it's scheduled.
04 · Frame

What this is — and isn't.

This is

A working relationship.

  • A serious thinking partner for the work you can't fully outsource.
  • Coach + advisor + operator + thought partner — moving fluidly between modes.
  • Direct conversation about strategy, people, and the inner game.
  • Accountability that doesn't curdle into pressure.

This isn't

What this isn't.

  • Passive advice you can ignore politely.
  • Therapy. I'm not the right person for that, and I'll tell you.
  • Endless processing without action.
  • Outsourced accountability for someone unwilling to change.
